Following installation instructions makes for a great gate and great experience - sturdy and safe
I had no problem installing this gate nor did I experience the "faulty gap" issues so many have where the gate would latch to the supports. Its actually supposed to come like that and warns you this does not make the gate faulty but is necessary for proper insulation and when gate is properly installed the gap disappears. We needed a gate that would spam 56 inches to keep a large new puppy out of the hallway where the kids rooms were to stop him from carrying off their toys as his. We ordered the gate and fitted it in place picking the extensions need to fit the 56" span. Once we knew where the pressure rings would go we used the drywall installation instructions to mount the holders in the wall for extra sturdiness. I think we could have simply used the adhesive attachments but puppy will grow to over 100 pounds so we wanted the extra hold (hopefully before then he will learn what toys are his and that he cannot help himself to others toys). This is where its important to note: until your gate is fully installed and you tighten it in for the final installation you will have a gap where the door would normally latch and the door appears off center. Once fully installed and mounted properly and tightened into place you will see, as you tighten the gate at the wall, the gap slowly goes away and door then is on center, and teh latch will work correctly. Every gate will come with that gab, which allows for the correct pressure installation, so seeing a gab and sending the gate back for a replacement is going to get you a gate with the same gap. This gate, installed as directed, is the sturdiest gate I have ever purchased, especially one that has to span such a width. Its also well made and looks very nice with the wood and metal, can actually look more like furniture than a barrier. I definitely would recommend this as a gate that would be safely used at the top of the stairs to prevent falls, for adults as well as children. Its also tall enough that its not going to be jumped over even by a very large dog (horse could probbaly do it through) unless its was in a hallway or area where the animal had 100 yards to run before leaping over. Even my cat, wise in the way of baby and pet gates, found that vaulting over it was not as easy as it had been in the past with other gates.

Great gate!
This gate was super easy to install. It is a sturdy gate and worked well! It’s also esthetically pleasing and matches our decor well. The only problem is that our son figured out how to open it…Lol.

Buy these!
The are fantastic and look great. I use them to keep my dogs out of a room. They were super easy to install, are top-notch quality, and the door is easy to open and close. Highly recommend!

Gate latch doesn't work right
Almost all parts of this gate work and looks good, but the top latch to open the gate has two latch tongs that need to slide to an open position in order to be able to open the gate. When I slide the handle to an open position, the upper tong slides into the latch housing but the lower tong does not. I have to use a flathead screwdriver in order to pry that lower tong in order to be able to open the gate door. I have experimented with loosening the the tension on the tension bolts but all that does is to make the gate insecure. As I indicated, the gate looks good and it's a good gate for our needs but the top latch is not working as expected.I will be looking for a replacement gate, as this is still the gate model that I want.---Got the replacement and same issue. I got ahold of someone at Summer Infant and she explained that the adjustment for the gate is very touchy. She called it "The Goldilocks Zone". Loosened the adjustment ever so slightly and it works now for my puppy. I would NOT depend on that latch for a toddler at the top of the stairs. I will be sending the replacement gate back. I only opened the box just enough to test the new gate latch and see that it works just the same way. I opened the box not too little, not too much, but just right. Next owner will never notice that the box has been opened.

Cheap, flimsy and broke within a week. Do not buy.
I’d give this 0 stars if I could. We researched for weeks to find a gate that would fit our 60” French door opening between our living by room and dining room. We chose this gate due to the how well made it seemed as well as the fact that it was aesthetically a nice looking gate. We haven’t even had it a week and it’s already broken. To start with, the design of this gate is not conducive to working in wide doorways. It advertises that it fits up to 60” doorways. Our doorway is 60” yet it feels rickety with the extensions in. The pins that connect the extensions to the gate and the gate to the doorframe are extremely weak and do not allow for this gate to remain sturdy. Even with several adjustments it still wobbles quite a bit but if you tighten it too much the entire unit bows. The wood gate slats are cheap as well. Not what you’d hope for in a gate that was almost $100. Last night was the final straw for us. We tried to deal with the bowing and general wobbliness of the gate but while my husband was walking through the gate and trying to close it the wooden bar under the gate lock hit his leg (not even that roughly) and the wood split like balsa wood at the top and bottom causing two sharp splintered areas. Not something you want when you have a 9 month old using the gate to pull himself up. Also, if you have big dogs, forget it. This gate will not contain them. We have a pit bull and two lab mixes and they have all figured out that if they jiggle the gate lock enough it will just pop open.Overall do not waste your money on this piece of junk. We learned our lesson and will be making our own gate so we know it’s built well enough.
