A Widow's Guide...
Kathleen Rehl's book, Moving Forward on Your Own for Widows is a gem. She has prepared an understandable, meaningful and supportive work for those who are in a vulnerable and challenging life transition. I am happy to add this guidebook on our shelves and our recommended list for our clients. This book should be standard on the shelves of Estate Attorney's, Elder Care Attorney's, Financial Planners and anyone who works and serves women. I am happy to add my voice to the others who are hailing this work as important. The guidebook is well conceived, organized and written. It is easy to follow and easy to walk clients through it.Congratulations, Kathleen, on a wonderful book!!!

So-So Guidebook for Widows
I wanted to like this book more, but there isn't much there for the money spent. I am a widow and went through the process of settling my husband's estate. While the book is written in a loving, helpful way, I felt that there should have been more details about what needs to be done, when it should be done, and who to contact. The author is a financial planner, so perhaps that should be a starting point (whether one could use these services). Maybe some women have a better support system than I had, but for me, it would have been helpful to have an itemized list of businesses to contact, what documents are needed, whether there is a will and if so, whether or not it needs to be probated, based on the value of assets, etc.The best advice is that women should know and be informed of investments, paying bills, where valuable paperwork (like a will) is located, whether or not there is a family attorney and/or a financial advisor, where account numbers and passwords are located, and so on. Death can happen unexpectedly and both spouses should know this information.

Essential for Widows
I have given this to two widows and they loved it. You should ask permission before you give it to anyone but it can may be the best advice they will ever get. The advice allows a widow to take a deep breath and move at a pace comfortable to her.

After my Father passed my Mother received this book from her Financial Advisor. I ordered the book to review and feel it offers a great balance of practical guides as well as poems.
