This book takes its readers on a thorough and fascinating journey to the headwaters of Unitarian and Universalist traditions and then returns them to modern times and the manifestation of those traditions in today's world. The focus of the book is on Unitarian and Universalist traditions as they emerged from the epicenter of European Christian thought to their transformation in England and New England. The authors' scholarship and attention to detail is noteworthy. They compellingly make the case that the development of traditions are linked to the influence of events and people converging together at a particular time or place. There are many interesting and well documented stories about the people behind the traditions and the influences of culture, place and theological evolution. It can be a dense read in parts. Do not let that deter you as it is worth the read. This book provided me with a rich understanding of the emergence of Christian belief and thought that are now manifested as the traditions of modern day Unitarian Universalism.Robert
