Most Timely
India today, has forgotten the Indian soldiers who fought during World War I.It seems that some of the Nationalists of today regard them as a bunch of mercenaries fighting Britain's war. The fact, as Vedica Kant reveals, is that many leading Indians of the day supported it.It is a pity that, apart from India Gate (where people do not understand the significance), there are no writings of the role of Indian soldiers during World War IThe writing of the book was overdue. The photographs bring it to life. The letters of the Indian soldiers give the tales a vibrancy and immediacy that would have been lacking. They braved difficult situations - those of the war, and the sad, horrible discrimination by the British officers - and came out credibly. It is a timely book.
