Biblical and easy to understand
This book is well done. I appreciate that it is biblically accurate, while being readable and understandable for younger ages. I also love the prayers at the end of each devotional. Honestly, I have read them to my son, as well, and changed the words in the prayer so they apply to all of my children.

Good but my kids didn’t love it.
I had hoped to love this a little more. I’m sure it’s great but we just didn’t enjoy the stories as mich as I had hoped.

A must have book!
This is the most beautiful book! Angie Smith is a gifted and anointed storyteller and you will enjoy learning as you read. I bought this for my 9 year old granddaughter so she can continue to grow in her knowledge of the Bible. She’s an artist so she very much enjoys the beautiful artwork....a must have book for sure!

Perfect book for my girl!
GREAT BOOK! I absolutely love this book. We got it from the library and I immediately ordered it on amazon because I knew I wanted a copy forever. It has so many amazing applications for girls (and mom might learn some too!) I love the format of each section- a story, an explanation/application and a prayer. It’s an excellent tool to show our girls how to be strong women of faith. I also love that it has a bookmark! Beautiful illustrations too. Highly recommend this book. You’ll hand it down for generations.

Nice art, focuses more on the men.
This book has some of the names of women in the bible. But it only writes about the women that seem to have famous men surrounding them. And it focuses more on the men than the women. I'm keeping it, as it does have a few hebrew words in it, and some prayers at the end if each story. I was a little sad that the perspective didnt focus more on the womans perspective or flesh out the womans story more. And I feel it left out a LOT of very strong female characters from the Bible.Over all it is nice, but not as in depth or enlightening as I had hoped.

blown away
I have read a bible story to my kids most nights for the past 11 years. This one, though. It was different than any I've read before. I learned new truth from it's pages. It does an amazing job of teaching on a kid/pre-teen level, but challenging them to look for the connections in scripture. I have given it as gifts. I seriously cannont recommend this enough

For Christians ONLY + takes liberties with the texts
I am sorry to have to give this book two stars despite the fact it is so beautifully designed and illustrated but I noticed two serious problems with it: 1) IT IS ONLY FOR CHRISTIAN READERS and 2) THE AUTHOR TAKES LIBERTIES WITH THE TEXT. Below I explain in detail.1) IT IS ONLY FOR CHRISTIANS. Other books of this kind can be read by Jewish readers; they can just skip the New Testament stories. Not so this one. For example, here is what the author writes at the conclusion of the story of Noah:"Many, many years later, the sound of a hammer pounding would pierce the silence again, driving nails into the wood of a cross.Thud. Thud. Thud. While the crowds mocked Him, there would be women who knew what He was doing for God—what he was doing for them. Standing high above the ground, the cross would bring life instead of death. The window of heaven would open again, and scarlet-colored droplets would rain from high above. Jesus Himself would be hung to cleanse us, and the flood of mercy would make us right with Him forever.Drop, drop, drop . . . "2) THE AUTHOR TAKES LIBERTIES WITH THE TEXTS For example, in the title story which tells the story of Esther, in the Biblical text, the King asks Haman what should be done for a man the King wishes to honor. Haman tells the King, thinking it is he himself who will be honored. It turns out that the King wants to honor Mordechai, and Haman has the humiliation of having to provide these honors to Mordechai before he, Haman, is eventually hung on the gallows he prepared for Mordechai. In the "For Such a Time" version, Haman is hung on the gallows that he had prepared for Haman, and afterwards Mordechai is honored in the way that Haman previously had told the King was fitting for a man whom the King wishes to honor. This is an example of how the author changed the plot of the story—to its detriment, by the way. Here is an example, of the author adding things that we not in the Biblical narrative: in the story of Bathsheba, the author recounts that the first child that David and Bathsheba, the product of their adulterous union, died as an infant. In the King James version we read in 2 Samuel 19:19 But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.20 Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the Lord, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.21 Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread.22 And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether God will be gracious to me, that the child may live?23 But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.Here is how the death of the baby is recounted in "For Such a Time as This":"On the seventh day, the child died. David rose up from the ground and stood tall, finally washing his clothes and leaving to go and worship the Lord. When he returned, his servants were confused and asked him why he seemed to be at peace. He told them that he knew that the child was now with God and that even though he couldn't raise him on this earth, he would see him again in heaven."I much prefer the textually faithful stories found in The Children's Illustrated Bible . (Obviously, one will have to choose the stories about women if one wants to substitute this book for "For Such a Time.") These condensed and simplified Bible stories in this book are careful to stay true to the original texts, and they too have very nice illustrations as well as some photographs and maps.

My daughter and I love this book!
I bought this devotional for my daughter who is five and I read from it to her every night before bed. We are now on our second time through it and we both enjoy it so much! Some of the content is over her head yet, but she always asks questions and it's opened the door for us to talk about the character of God and how much He loves us and wants to be a part of our life. It's amazing how each story pertains to something I went through and needed to hear that day, as well! God is so good and gracious. I'm recommending this book to all the moms and grandmothers I know with daughters!!

Beautiful, but not all colour
I would have personally preferred if the whole book was in colour, there are a number or sketches that are black and white with a sort of 'under construction' feel. That being said, the book is still beautiful and gives attention to all of the women of the Bible, not just the main features. I named my daughter Lydia so I love that we can read her story together as she gets older. There is also a beautiful dedication page to leave a note to her. Overall this is a beautiful mother and daughter book for the two of us and I'd recommend it.

I was so excited to find this book for my ...
I was so excited to find this book for my 9 year old daughter who is a feminist in her own making. I wanted to show her that the bible is NOT all about men. I was SO DISAPOINTED with this book. Almost every story starts with the same old men of Sunday school stories. Each story briefly talks about the woman of the story but certainly doesn't focus on her. The biblical reflections at the end of the story often don't follow with the story either and certainly don't show young women anything special about their specific signifacance to God. SO DISAPOINTING!
