Squirrel/Bird deterrent
Easy to assemble and effective!

Easy to assemble and disassemble, so they can be used year after year.
The pinwheels are pretty, easy to assemble, and I think they'll do the job of keeping birds/animals from the garden. Also, they'll be easy to dis-assemble and store for the winter.

Not Durable in Strong wind
These are not assembled but not difficult to set up. However, we've used similar ones on our dock to keep the birds away and they spinned more easily and were very durable. These lasted only one strong wind.

Nothing is perfect, but these work pretty well!
The media could not be loaded. I've recently been having pigeon problems on my balcony in NYC. This spring, 2 pigeons kept returning multiple times a day, even after spraying them with strong streams of water. I finally discovered a semi-hidden nest with 2 baby pigeons. Not wanting to kill the babies, I decided to wait patiently until they were old enough to fly the coop. Only one survived, however, and the resulting mess from the remaining pigeon and its parents (not to mention the carcass of its sibling) was a big cleanup job. While disinfecting the area and rearranging planters and other items, a second nest was discovered with 2 eggs (and I had no intention of allowing these eggs to hatch). With the eggs and nests gone, I figured the pigeons would have no reason to return, and I was right... for a while anyway.About 3 weeks ago, I noticed 2 pigeons perched on the balcony rail and I promptly sprayed them with water whenever I saw them. They would come every day, sometimes more than once. Water is a good deterrent but only when you catch them in the act. I was absolutely determined not to allow any of them to nest on my balcony ever again and needed a way to create a more inhospitable environment for them.I did a lot of reading and research and looked at available options. I considered putting bird spikes on the railing but I saw so many mixed reviews about those. The easiest option seemed to be these Bird Blinder pinwheels since they combined movement, light and sound and didn't require any permanent installation. They arrived pre-assembled and all I had to was attach them onto the stakes. My balcony rails have 5 posts and I attached one pinwheel to each post with 3 zip ties each to secure them in place. I inserted 3 other pinwheels in ground-level planters around the balcony as well. I have to say, they have worked wonderfully so far!I have not had one single visit from any pigeons during this time. They spin in the slightest breeze so there is usually always movement, and when the sun catches them they sparkle with their holographic design. They make a slight sound as they spin (like any pinwheel) so there are several ways they deter the pigeons.Today we had Tropical Storm Isaias in NYC and they held up very well in 45+ mph winds. The high winds did shift their orientation (the direction they were originally facing) but they were attached securely to the rails and never faltered. The attached picture is after their initial installation, and the video was towards the end of Tropical Storm Isaias.Overall, I definitely recommend these Bird Blinder pinwheels. They make not work for everyone in every circumstance but they have worked great in my situation, and even better than I had expected. Time will tell how they hold up and whether they continue to repel NYC pigeons from my balcony, but so far I give them 2 thumbs up.UPDATE... just after writing my review, I saw my first pigeon sitting on my balcony rail, next to one of the spinning pinwheels. So, sadly these aren't perfect. But the fact that it's the first time I've seen one at all since installing them (versus the daily visits I was getting before from multiple pigeons) makes me hopeful. Still 5 stars and I'll update again if things change.

Effective Goose Deterrent
Purchased these to prevent Geese from nesting on my property with excellent results thus far. I've witnessed several adult geese with young goslings as well as lone geese that typically stop to feed on my property opt for new feeding grounds after seeing the pinwheels. Choosing strategic locations to place the pinwheels is key. Use the sun and wind to your advantage so that as many pinwheels as possible are making use of reflected sunlight and wind patterns whenever possible. Take some time to pinpoint where the birds enter/exit your property, feed, congregate, etc. You're essentially setting up an ambush. Once the bird(s) notices the first pinwheel, it should be led to notice other pinwheels, eventually leaving the area to seek safer territory outside of your propertyThe materials are of good quality and have withstood the harsh environmental factors of coastal New England. I highly recommend using some form of "super glue" (gorilla glue is great) to secure the pointed bottom to the stem and the stem to the pedal wheel. If possible, keep at least 2 unused pinwheels as reserves in case of irreparable damage to the deployed units. So far they've survived maximum wind gusts of 42mph and been fully submerged during a full moon high tide. Keep clean of debris whenever possible. Also worth noting that a combination of heavy cloud cover and lack of wind will likely lead to undeterred geese. Regardless, I'm happy to have finally found a humane and affordable solution to keeping away the sometimes aggressive, non-stop poop machine that is the Canadian goose.

Not effective
Takes a lot of wind to make them spin to be effective. Did not scare the birds aluminum pie pan on string worked better.
