As beautiful as pictured!
All 6 that I ordered (3 of each color, green/blue) were received extremely well packed (double boxed). The box could have been used for soccer practice and they would have arrived in perfect condition. These are THE pots to use for African Violets (my current plant-passion). Water goes in the bottom vessel, which is glazed all over to prevent leakage or seeping, the plant is put in the top (pay attention to the soil type! They include instructions) and your plant will be happy forever more (or until it is time to remove, trim and repot it as they all need this from time to time).I bought some AV pots recently at Home Depot, and they are nice. Light blue and light green crackle glaze, elegant shape, but you must remove the AV insert to add water to the pot, and you have to MARK the inside so you don't over fill and get water everywhere.THESE pots, from Maryland China Company, have an discreet hole in the side where you add water - thus when it comes up to the top of the hole, it is filled. The water should last from 1 to 3 weeks (depending on the plant, and conditions in the house). Certainly they are not cheap. The pots from HD were about $10 recently, but these are... just so much nicer. I'll keep the HD pots as I can only fault them when sitting next to one of these...Beautiful. More beautiful than the picture shows. A mirror smooth glaze, and lovely proportional shape. I'm thinking more, one of these days!Update: YIKES!!! You should put felt pads on the bottom of these pots. There are pads there but are very thin. The problem occurs when the glazed pot is placed on small 'spikes' on the kiln shelf to prevent the glaze from adhering to the shelf during firing. But since the bottom is completely glazed, there is no unglazed location to sit the pot on the stand - so during firing the glaze can 'crawl' down and form a sharp point. The felt is easily pierced and this can cause a problem where the pot will scratch furniture when it is turned or slid to a different location. SO, get ye to a hardware store and buy some REAL felt pads!My 5 star review stands. Although I am fuming that my beautiful desk has long nasty scratch across the top! I should have checked each pot. I only checked one, which seemed fine, but three of them, out of 6 were quite sharp!Would buy again!!Update: 2012-08-15: Oops. The love of my life is unable to deal with these pots. He is not a plant person and is going to 'do his job' of keeping the pots full of water. Not a good thing. This allows the plant to continuously sit in a pool of water, where it soaks through the ceramic and creates a far too wet environment for its roots. Violets need to have the soil dry out between waterings - not too much! Just enough. They're easy to grow but watering is where you run into the most trouble with them.He keeps them watered. They rot. Oh my.So when I am gone my a boat for significant amounts of time, I had to come up with a better solution for him. SO.1. Using a ceramic 1/2" bit, I drilled a hole in the bottom of the insert (very easy).2. Put the violet in a 4" azalea plastic pot, with an wick (interested in wick watering? Just look it up on the web.)3. Cut a piece of 2" pvc 1.5" tall to use as the plastic pot base.4. Put the pvc into the base, with the violet on top to keep it steady (it fits neatly, looks nice). Insure the wick hangs out the bottom - that hole you drilled.5. Set up your wick watering tray as usual (again, look it up).6. Set the whole thing on the tray - putting the lovely bottom part somewhere safe.Sounds like a lot to go through, but these pots are really beautiful! I want to use them! Now, all my husband has to do when I am gone is keep water in the wicking tray. Not a tough job, and he doesn't have to look at a disappointed 'Captain' when I come home.I can take the ones that are in flower, plop them back in the lovely 'bases' and put them around the living room. While I am home, I can water through the hole in the side.Voila! Happy husband, happy violets, happy Captain.Cap'n Jan

Great packaging
Don't normally write a review unless I'm disappointed (happens). But in this case the product was what I was looking for and at a reasonable price when compared to the box stores. I was stunned at the attention to every detail in the packaging...Bravo. Like most, I don't like paying for freight, but after seeing how well it was packaged I feel the $9.99 was well worth it. Only down side was a significant amount of expanded poly-styrene.

Quality and delivery
These pots are really good for African violets. They are good quality and we’re delivers on time. They used to be on sale in Home Depot, unfortunately, not any more. My question is- why their price on Amazon is 3 times higher than it was in Home Depot? I understand that prices go up but not so much.

Very pleased with my planters.
I had previously purchased one and liked it so much that I purchased three additional planters. They’re attractive and very good quality. Recommend.

Self Watering Pots
I bought these same pots from Home Depot years ago. Depot no longer sells them. Now I buy them here. They are great! The pot keeps this dirt moist to the touch. They have a deep glaze with a mix of dark and lighter color. You cannot go wrong buying these! The pot looks far better than in the picture. The inside area for the dirt is 4 inches across but the pot is quite a bit larger and stable. The pot has a hole for adding water that you don't see in the picture. I use them with christmas cactus, african violets and basically any plant that I don't want to kill. Top off the resevoir with water about once every two or three weeks and the pot does the rest. Top off and go on vacation a few weeks. I have about ten of these, blue ones and some green ones. Gave one to a lady at work that says she kills all of her plants. She said at least she has one plant now that does well.
