The perfect scan tool for the auto enthusiast
Xtool’s IP608 is a compact and affordable scan tool that is feature packed. Take note that this model is not bi-directional, you would need to be looking at one of their D-series for those features.I had a steering assist error message on the dash display of a ’15 F-150 that I used the IP608 to diagnose. The scan showed there was an issue communicating with the steering control module. A bit of Internet sleuthing showed where the module was located, and I found that a connector was not seated completely. Once clicked into place, the dash message went away and a subsequent scan showed no errors. When you first turn on the tool, you will be prompted to set it up and register it. That process is simple to do, just be sure you have access to wi-fi when you are ready to activate. The UI supports more than a dozen languages. Once registered, the tool showed there were 163 updates to perform and this took about an hour to complete.Vehicle identification is a matter of simply initiating a vehicle scan, and the VIN and vehicle type are returned. The menus will then be tailored to that particular vehicle.Once you run your tests, you can generate a report and send it to a printer. The IP608 is small enough to keep in a vehicle for those “just in case” moments, and at this low price point, it makes for an affordable and extremely useful tool. Lifetime updates are free in the future. Customer service response when needed is prompt and courteous.

Great scanner at an affordable price! Luv the IP608 by XTOOL
This is not my first purchase with XTOOL. Luv this company, the brand, and especially the technical support. You always receive an answer to your question the very next day. I’ve owned the A30D for 3 years now and the A20 for 1.5 yrs. I continue to utilize both tools to this day without fail. These scanners have paid for themselves multiple times over.As far as the IP608, I plan to post a full review on DOITYOURWAY Corner, but for now, I will try to provide a brief summary. The scanner comes with a USB cable for charging, the cable utilized to interface with your diagnostic connector, and a power supply adaptor for use inside and outside of the USA.The device when powered up and loaded communicates fairly quickly with the car or truck depending on your CAN BUS speed. The main splash screen shows all features available with the scanner providing your vehicle supports it. Menus include Special functions, Auto Scan, Diagnostic, Updates, Global Settings for the scanner, “Report” this accesses saved scans or tests, and Remote Control.I tested 2 vehicles:2009 Ford Escape.2019 Dodge Ram 1500 Tradesman. As long as you utilize the 12+8 cable to bypass the SGW (Security Gate Module), you can connect to the 2019 Ram 1500. Thanks to XTOOL technical support for assisting with this. Once connected, I was able to scan almost all computer modules: BCM, PCM, Electronic Steering Module, Integrated Center Stack, Occupant Restraint, Radio, ABS, and many more. Once I completed the scan, I found some failure codes and was able to clear them. I was also able to perform some functional tests. This is typically not possible with lower end scan tools.I then tested it with the Escape. Ford allowed much more access to the CAN BUS and active testing. As side from the normal diagnostic scans, I was able to see live data (I could also with 2019 Ram) for many PIDs. I decided to perform some functional testing, from the screens shots you can see that I was able to test the directional lamps and view the keyless entry access code. I provided some screenshots to show the other functions that maybe of interest. All in all a great scanner at an affordable price. I’m looking forward to using this scanner more and more.

A perfect tool for any mechanically inclined modern car owner
One of the best features of IP608 is free updates on top of sub-$300 price and not being locked to single car make. The IP608 is very fast (not surprising knowing other XTool scanners) and supports DOIP/LIN busses. The unit is rather compact, but the 7inch screen seems a bit small. While UI is laid out very well, I had to do some actions with stylus, for example, entering text. OK, so I have big hands, you might not have this problem. The scanner does not show bus hierarchy, but I would not hold it against it, given the price and lifetime free updates. Special functions support is extensive (very similar to bigger XTool scanners), but not all are applicable to each car. It does not support bidirectional control.I often take road trips where services for modern import cars might not be available. IP608 will give me a better peace of mind on those trips, just in case. Just being able to do a full OEM scan and see the codes, malfunctions and live data can be a life saver when far away from big city. I am planning to keep the unit in the car - it does not take up a lot of space. With it and an automotive probe I can troubleshoot quite a lot and, hopefully, get out of sticky situation or two.I think this is very good scanner for mobile situation. For a garage workshop I would keep something different - something that can do bidirectional control, perhaps D7 or D8. But those are more expensive to buy and update. Another situation IP608 can be useful is to gather all the facts before dropping the car off at the mechanic's. It helps keep the mechanics honest. At this price it can pay for itself in a single visit. Finally, one more important thing about XTool is the team behind the product. It is easy to reach them, they always respond to questions and they are proactive.

NOT WORTH IT
The damages this machine cost me were over $1,000I purchased this product back at the beginning of this year so that I can diagnose why the check engine light was lighting on my 2016 KIA SedonaI connected the scanner and my Cluster just went dark, I had to take the van to the dealer and had to replace the cluster because the scanner damaged it. I was left with NO car for over a month and was very disappointed. When I called the manufacturer for the scanner I did not get any response. NOT WORTH IT
