There's been a lot of buzz about the health benefits of cocoa flavanols, and their potential effects on heart health. This supplement makes no on-label claims regarding heart health. The product page does, however mention heart health. On Feb 3, 2023 the FDA issued a Qualified health claim notice for Cocoa flavanol supplements allowing certain kinds of heart health claims to be made. The notice is worth reading.For those who are wanting a quick (non high calorie breakfast shake) way of getting cocoa flavanols, these capsules are perfect. The suggested daily dose is 3 capsules per day. We're not clear if that is 1 capsule 3 times a day, or 3 capsules at once, but we opted for the 1 time a day route. The capsules are ever so slightly chocolate scented. We made the mistake of accidentally biting into one - they do not taste like chocolate. They're bitter and salty.The product is cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practice) certified. The company is US based, but the label does not say that is made in the USA. Website information as well as a QR code is on label. The expiration date on the bottle we received is aprox 2 years from now.Negatives - the cost for a 1 month supply is a bit prohibitive.

It has a faint smell to it of herbs upon opening. The capsules are medium/large size and 3 per serving. It recommends taking 3 per day with 8 ounces of water. It was a bit much taking 3 at a time. The taste of it is mostly of the capsules vs what’s inside. Seems like good antioxidant support.

Didn’t work for me

This Cocoa based supplement by CODEAGE, is designed to help provide cardiovascular, and anti oxidant effects. The main ingredient in this supplement is Cocoa Extract, which is typically produced from using Cocoa tree bark, and the Cocoa Bean itself. This extract is a highly powerful source of Flavanols, and Epicatechin Flavanoids. Simply put, these two molecules in Cocoa extract work to help blood flow, and regulate blood sugar. One of this supplements ingredients is a proprietary blend of Cocoa extract, and Sunflower oil.I cannot comment on the strength of this proprietary blend, but tasting the inside of a capsule, I get a very bitter cocoa taste, which is what you want in a Cocoa based supplement.This supplement is coded and dated for freshness and safety.

This company has a very good reputation of not giving me any gluten reactions. That is very important to me. I have used many of their products and for a few years I have noticed they are great to use. I recommend to anyone who needs quality supplements and need to place emphasis on clean eating.

Someone in the nutrition area showed me a report that shows Cocoa Flavanol content in these capsules are around 6mg vs 500mg stated on the label. There is a difference between Cocoa Powder content vs Cocoa Flavanol amount (500mg+ for Heart and Brain benefits).

It will be hard to know if there's any benefit from these but I can say that so far I've had no reaction to them. They're very clean, just the two ingredients plus the capsule and a little acacia fiber filler. There's only the faintest smell and no taste. One small side note, on the bottle it's written that it's cGMP certified, yet it doesn't post the formal certification symbol, which is slightly suspicious -- hoping this is just a style choice. Expiration is a little under 2 years. 4 stars is only because I can't independently verify that they do anything, but I do think the product idea and cleanliness are worth exploring.
