Speculative Everything, With a new preface by the authors: Design, Fiction, and Social Dreaming

I think this is a must if you’re designing for people, if you’re interested in contextualizar and give sense to you designs. An absolute game changer when designing, when proposing, when thinking in another possible futures. This is not, however, for the designer that’s comfortable with agile methodologies, with design thinking or plain human-centred methodologies. I would recommend it over and over again.

This book is an exploration of thinking about potential worlds. It doesn't provide any answers to real-world problems aside from that. If you're interested in speculation of any sort, this book is for you. Fair warning though: towards the end it derails to a discussion of "alternate truths", presenting cults and fringe worldviews as something worth accommodating, before cutting to a showcase of the authors' work. Reading it after Trump's tenure, this ending annoyed me. I was really intrigued by its narration of design's past outside of product design, but ironically the most influential design in this book ended up a household product. This book will both disappoint and inspire hope. Not perfect, but a well conceived treatise of art.

Design as a social instrument of change - Imagining possible futures - that is my interest and this book does a nice job of highlighting those that are doing that kind of work and the thinking behind it.

There are such complex detail theories in this book. A must read for any designer, design strategist, anyone who has a genuine curiosity for words, culture and design.

This book gives incredible insight into a design and studio practice. It encourages a revitalizing of your mindset of design.

As a student of design thinking, this book's title and initial reviews intrigued me. It is almost science fiction caliber in terms of asking the reader to suspend traditional belief and accept the future shock of brave new world thinking. It is not what I was expecting, but it is certainly a speculative thought provoking collection.
