I don't know where other buyers ordered theirs from don't know what those sellers sent. I had to order 2 of these because I recently came across a 32x and genesis for 10 bucks with just the 32x cable and the systems nothing else. So i needed to buy an ac adapter, so i ordered 1 to make sure the genesis works since i already have the rf tv connector. The genesis worked. This is the original ac and it powered up the genesis with no problems. The 1 i did receive is a genuine sega brand ac adapter for the model 2 and 32x. This first one works great since it is oem. I hope the second seller is honest and sends me an oem sega brand ac. I ordered another after I confirmed the genesis was working. At the time of writing this may 13th 2015 i am awaiting the second ac adapter i just ordered for the 32x. Hoping the second ac adapter is genuine sega and hopefully the seller was honest in the description. If you have a genesis 2 i recommend getting this ac adapter make sure the description says sega brand and that it is for the 2nd genesis model. Off brand ac adapters usaully aren't good and end up being a waste.

Seller (VoltSale) finally changed their description, note that it is now longer posted as an OEM product.This is a made in China generic adaptor with LED light. It is slim form to fit one outlet, and the construction is pretty solid.When I purchased it, the pictures and description were wrong (clearly showing and describing the original AC adapter).I told the seller this, as well as the readings (9.5v and 2.16A), and was told I "must have been sent the wrong product" and "the right item would be shipped to me". So I received another of the same adapter for free. Um... thanks? Well, two for the price of one I guess makes up for not listing the right item.Anyhow, this is what you'll need to run an Everdrive or similar flash cartridge (you need more amps than many generic adapters provide).Since I received two, I replaced the tip on one of these units for my Genesis 1, swapping the polarity.

This is a warning to anyone looking for a new Genesis or Mega Drive power adapter. Do not buy from Upbright. They send you a 12v adapter, which will cause excessive heat on the voltage regulator (7805). Some Genesis consoles do not have a heatsink, which is required above a certain voltage.I would suggest a 12W Universal AC/DC Adapter with Switching (Regulated)... Set it to 9V (as suggested in the Sega Service Manuel) and you will be golden. Your system will run cooler because of the adapter can only vary +/-5% (8.55-9.45v) from the voltage. You only actually need 8v (greater then 7.5V is recommended as minimum) to run the system anything more increases the waste power as heat.The official adapters are unregulated and can vary +/-3V (7-13V)... Often they run on the high side and if you feel where the 7805 is, you can feel the heat. Plus the power adapter runs warm all the time. Later adapters seem to run cooler like the Majesco version.

The item I received was an original Sega power adapter. I would just recommend reading the product description to make sure you are getting a Sega cord if possible. If you can't find one that says so, you can always message the seller to make sure before you buy. I used my power cord to power a Sega Pico and it worked great!

The one I bought was Condition: Used - Very Good and fulfilled by Amazon for $15 with free shipping. I recommend spending a little more, get very good condition and go with fulfilled by Amazon. Mine arrived looking very good, OEM and works.

Not sure why so many people got knock offs, I've ordered quite a few of these and they are the originals. Take note though of the item description and where it is shipping from.
