Good advice
A very useful book with good advice. The book does give some good places to start as a writer. More crucially the book discusses why people who want to write, don't write and gives good advice and strategies to get over the hurdles and write. I read the book in April, and followed the advice which helped me complete the first draft of my novel. I wish I'd read this twenty years earlier. If you've always wanted to write, but found yourself on the sofa at the end of the day kicking yourself because your work remains unwritten, then this is the starting point for you - read it, follow the advice which will give you a small beginning and after three months the trickle of words turns into a stream. If you are looking for advice on dialogue, plotting and planning a novel, then there are other more detailed books for that, but this book is the one that will get you started. Well worth a read.

A gem if you're experiencing jitters on the long writers' journey
Just devoured this little gem from one of my favourite writing gurus. Comprehensive (I found the chapter about expectations particularly helpful) and delivered with humour & confidence. Reading James Scott Bell is always instructive. This book in particular felt like having a really good writing mate to talk things over with.

it's like having a conversation with an older
If you've been writing for any length of time, there is going to be a lot in this book that resonates. It's a relief to know I'm normal! As another reviewer said, it's like having a conversation with an older, wiser friend who bestows their wisdom on you in a way that leaves you confident and inspired to be the best writer you can be. I particularly liked the section on dealing with expectations. And the typical popcorn kitten scenario, who hasn't done that! Would recommend it to anyone, not just those who write, but anyone who puts their creative self out there.

A must read for every writer
James Scott Bell strikes again with another great book. Although I already knew most of the writing tips mentioned in this book, it was refreshing to read them again. Above all, this book is incredibly uplifting, it will boost you to write more.
