he was never very good at being an invalid
Taking place shortly after the last book, Leo is up and about even though he probably shouldn't be yet. But as he says, he was never very good at being an invalid. Because of his suffering at Chatha's hands he's having a very hard time at reconciling his feelings about Jackson and Docia being these bodywalkers he's never heard of and his only experience with them being at the hands of Chatha and Kamen. He's pretty much pissed off at the world and had everything that made him him shatter and he takes it out on the two he loves the most. Even though he hates himself for it. The story quickly starts when Apep makes a surprise attack at their safe house. Ram's been taken out of commission, Docia is trapped inside(because of Leo), and Jackson is pinned where he's at in the middle of the driveway. When Leo interrupts things, Jackson gets taken out and just before Leo meets his demise he's saved by the night angel Faith. After his attack doesn't go as planned, Apep just up and leaves...huh. Faith was sent to warn the bodywalkers and obviously was too late in that regard, but she was able to save Jackson's and Menes' life. At least for the time being. What they need to actually save him is a very powerful djinn. So Leo and Faith go on a trip. Lucky for them Docia befriended Singsing and with her help they were able to get to the most powerful one in North America. I really liked Grey's character. He was a pretty awesome djinn and I hope to see more of him in the future too. One thing that Faith had always been taught was never to make a wish from one of them, but circumstances what they are she is left with no choice if she is to save Jackson's life and pretty much the world. Of course the wish comes with a price and it's kind of a funny nik they're sent to retrieve, with the whole thing actually seeming a little easy too but we finally get glimpse of what the wraiths are like. Payment fulfilled, Grey and the two of them pop back up at the house to save Jackson just in time. Throughout the whole trip Leo had been finding himself more and more drawn to Faith despite how hard he tried to fight it because of what she was. And once Grey showed them the future should they fail to get his help, it makes it harder for Leo at times to keep his distance. But with Faith's endless understanding and the ease with which he finds himself opening up to her he finds himself doomed. It's also thanks to her that he finally accepts what Jackson and Docia had become and he really needed to do that because he can't see his life without them. And now that he's got his head on straight again, by the end he has even found a place for himself in this world of supernatural creatures.Apep is pretty crazy in his own right and we see that a few times here. Very very odd god... He's come up with an evil plan and goes forth to enact it. In his own brutal way of course. And we finally learn of all twelve nightwalker races as well as where they came from. Plus now we know how this curse was enacted on them, dividing the races.

Originally Reviewed For: Tea and Book[...]Jacquelyn Frank returns to the world of the Nightwalkers and there is so much going on! We knew about a handful of the Nightwalkers but Ms Frank has been teasing us with more. In Forsaken we touch back in with the bodywalkers, we meet more of the Djinn and are introduced to THREE new nightwalker species!! YEP THREE!! The Night Angels, The Wraiths and the Mystics. But not all of these races are willing to work together. War is on the rise, battles are being fought and won and the human world knows nothing about it. Well except for a select few and Leo Alvarez is just a bit peeved that he is one of them!Leo Alvarez had gone through life living by his own code. Loyal to his beliefs and two people. Jackson and Docia, his brother and sister of the heart. But when both Jackson and Docia have near death experiences and are offered a chance to host a bodywalker.. Leo is left out in the cold. Well until he is captured and tortured by the rival bodywalkers.. tortured to near death before being revived and tortured again.. Only sheer chance allows him a way out. Now he is held captive by his own anger and his refusal to accept that Jackson and Docia are still alive and well, even if they are sharing their bodies with ancient Egyptian souls. His rages is a living, breathing thing.. but when Jackson is attacked and lies near death he realizes that he is still willing to do anything for his best friend.Faith is a Night Angel sent to help the bodywalkers. She knows that without Jackson/Menes the war is lost before it is even begun. Arriving just moments to late to warn them of the attack she still does all she can to save Jackson.. even agreeing to work with the embittered Leo.Since we haven't met Night Angels yet, a brief introduction. Faith is black.. not African black not human black but sheer ebony, completely black, except for her white, white hair and yellow eyes.. oh and her gorgeous blue wings (more like tea lights then feathery wings). A creature of fantasy and light.. An other so different that poor Leo is just programmed to think of her as something freaky and wrong. But if it means saving Jackson, work with her he will.Leo and Faith have miles to go when it comes to finding common ground. Most of it is Leo letting go of his unreasonable hatred for all things Nightwalker and accepting that there are good Nightwalkers and bad ones.. just like humans. That while the Nightwalker species have their strengths so do does the human race. Finding the balance between the two is a battle in and of itself and yet Ms Frank brings these two together in a slow sensual slide that evokes lush meadows and steamy summer nights. No race to copulate just that constant tug of sensation!!I must say I am enjoying this series.. when Ms Frank left the Demons and Lycanthropes I was a wee bit irked, thought she had no clue what she was doing.. I should seriously stop thinking that about authors, because obviously she had a plan. We are meeting each species of Nightwalkers and watching them slowly gravitate towards each other. It's gonna be fun when we get to see how Noah, Gideon and Ethan think about all of this!!This series can get a little convoluted and confusing if you aren't aware of all that is going on BUT Ms Frank offers the opportunity to fall for each species as an individual series. So if you are just starting with Jacquelyn Frank that's ok.. You can backtrack and still enjoy every book!ShauniThis review is based on the ARC of Forsaken provided by netgalley a

Not my favorite, but still a good read for me.
I loved this Author's Nightwalker series. This World of Nightwalkers series is not quite as good, IMO--but I still enjoy them all. This one was not my favorite, because it was hard to connect with the Hero. Even knowing that some of his personality issues were due to the terrible torture he endured, it was still hard to really like him. But, as usual, the World Building in the Author's many series is exceptional. And I really liked the Heroine in this book. Her species was a spark of creativity, her personality was enchanting, and the plot continues flawlessly from the last book. As it will continue into the next, without resorting to a cliffhanger. It simply gives the reader a teaser into the continuing storyline. I will continue this series with pleasure.

tome 3 nightwalkers
