Great book
I first read the sample of this book and was hooked. I found the book to be very entertaining and a very insightful look into the world of Eve Online. I never liked playing the game, but I always found the stories coming out of it truly fascinating. After reading this I've come back to it and found it has changed and improved a lot! Great book.

Quite possibly the best name for an academic book yet.
Quite possibly the best name for an academic book yet. This book is a well put together compilation of specialist topic knowledge directly related to EVE Online. It offers a nice insight into the world of virtual universes and the people who are engaged with them. Particularly pertinent for people interested in the study and application of research drawn from within these complex virtual universes.

Stiff, Often Awkward and Distanced, Academic Essays Don't Approach Human Experience in EVE
Though EVE is certainly worthy of the kind of critical eye that academia can provide, I'm not sure this attempt was terribly successful. The inclusion of player-written essays provide stark highlight on the stiff, often awkward, academic authored pieces. While the authors raise interesting points, and throw light on things like women in EVE, the formality of the academic pose distances them from the real human experience of EVE players. I think, ultimately, that these failures stem from the nature of academic writing. Ironically, one of the latter pieces in the collection advocates for EVE historians, just at Andrew Groen's outstanding 'Empires of EVE' is released.

Great Essays Aimed at Academic EVE Afficionados
I'm using this collection as a course text at my University. I enjoyed the depth of most of the essays, and the intriguing selection of topics. I really wish that the book was prefaced with a more general and detailed introduction to EVE and the state of play. I think these essays would mostly be pretty challenging for someone who was not already quite familiar with EVE.

Academic study/review of aspects of Eve Online
Good academic study of Eve Online. Assumes a college education, so don't buy if for light reading. Could see this as a text in college class on sociological aspects of video games.

Very Eve and that may not be a good thing - can I have my isks back?
Eve is a rich topic and this book talks about it from a limited focus. It felt very much just about whoever it was the author felt were the "cool kids" in Eve.

Promising title that is a bit too academic in its execution
The topic and the title are both intriguing, yet after reading this book I am left to wonder what it could have been.A step back and less academic approach would have done wonders to this book in terms of readability. Still interesting and for those who are into the topic a worthwhile pickup.

The economics of Eve Online
Needed this for a PhD on virtual currencies and it does not disappoint. really insightful book well written if a little academic-y, but that's what I was after.

Brilliant and indispensable
I stumbled across this while casually looking for books on the MMORPG, EVE Online. This short write-up probably won't really do it justice but suffice to say that this is a fairly seminal volume when it comes to the game.Whether your interest in EVE is from the perspective of a new player, a veteran or an academic, then you'll find something in this book for you. Some of it is aspirational, some of it is inspirational, some of it is informative, and some of it is deeply thoughtful about the nature of human beings and online gaming generally.Downsides? The book is a little bit dated now, although it's largely still very relevant and useful on a bunch of levels. The illustrations are in black and white which is a pity because colour would have made them much clearer and useful to the reader.Simplified: A brilliant book that everyone who studies, plays or has a passing interest in EVE Online should read.
