Asparagus takes a few years to grow, but once they get established, they are perennials that can last ten-fifteen years or more. If you only like asparagus here and there, you might be better off getting them from the store. If, like me, you LOVE them sauteed with some garlic and butter, then you should know you are in for the long haul. You need to do research and prepare your ground well in advance, but trust me: it's worth it =)

I planted 50 seeds 2 months ago and I now have 50 healthy asparagus sprouts. Some sprouted in as little as 2 weeks at room temperature. I was very surprised by the 100% viability rate, especially since some of the seeds took several weeks longer than others.

I finally see them growing after a month and a half and am happy.
