Cambridge Grammar for First Certificate with Answers and Audio CD

I am an English teacher and I would recommend this book to anyone who is studying for First Certificate, especially if they are studying alone. The cd provides practical examples of the grammar used in every chapter, together with the audio for the listening exam questions. Each chapter includes a exam question from the writing exam and a specimen essay for each question is included in the key. This is particularly important for students studying alone as many other books only provide suggestions for ideal essay answers, whereas this book gives you the entire essay, so you can see what the examiners expect.The only drawback to this book is that it doesn't cover the speaking part of the exam - you will need to download a sample exam from the Cambridge website or perhaps buy a book of past exam papers so you can see the style of the exam.With my students I also use the book Cambridge Vocabulary for First Certificate with Answers and Audio CD. It's not as good value as this Cambridge Grammar book, as it's about the same price but only has 137 pages, but it does cover all the vocabulary expected for the exam.

Good and comprehensive text. I only used it as a grammar reference to study to the FCE exam. I didn't make the exercises because I hadn't time.Now, I have purchased the grammar for CAE/CPE and the last one is much more confusing than the one for FCE. If you are in the range from begginner to upper-intermediate and are studying for FCE exam I really suggest you to buy Grammar for first certificate.

the book is well laid out with simple grammar explanations followed by exercises of various types. The answers are at the back of the book. I particularly liked the test at the beginning of the book which shows what areas you need to focus on. The book comes with a CD but I haven't used it yet so cannot comment on the CD.

This textbook is exactly what its name says. I was pretty happy with it, if you need a help with grammar, get this one.

Easy to use in my class. My student finds it very useful. The CD is very good, clear and understandable voices.

As a grammar for First Cert this is very comprehensive and it does have some additional exam type exercises, however it is not a stand alone preparation for the exam as you need to back it up with texts from other sources.

The Grammar for First Certificate book is currently being used as supplementary material before taking the First Certificate Exam. It is clear, has good examples and the CD helps with listening skills.
