Redwoods Hardcover – Picture Book, March 17, 2009

I bought this for my 7 year old grandson and we read it together. The text has lots of good information about the Coastal Redwoods. The illustrations tell a parallel story of a boy reading the book while on the subway and entering the world of the redwoods (even climbing up into the canopy). The book did a good job of conveying the amazing facts of these giants (lots of Wows!).

Message: See that World Out There? It's Yours: Go Get It. Hike through the Redwoods in a book and the go get your boots. This is a great Great Outdoor Go Get It Book.

The author did a great job with incorporating informational facts with fantastic illustrations and great dialogue!

Grandkids learned a lot, and so did I. Nice to be informed before our trip.

I read this to my 9 & 6 year olds as part of our homeschooling. It is engaging, informative and has wonderful illustrations.

interesting information on how amazing redwood trees are. The story line is written so it is easily understood by children and interesting to adults. Illustrations are great.

While the details are perfect for my 7-year-old daughter, my son stays occupied by the captivating illustrations. Great overview to the Redwood trees featuring a young Asian-American boy who is adventurous with hiking and climbing. I also love how the story starts off with the boy reading his own book and ends with him leaving his book on a bench for another child to discover - such a clever detail!

I learned about this author and book from a recent webinar and was fascinated by the concept of the book. It is so beautiful and expertly done. I'm very impressed with the way the illustrations have been done, showing the book inside the book like we are part the story and the boy's journey of discovering the redwoods and learning alongside with him. The text is a bit long but very informative. It makes the learning process more fun with these illustrations.

Great introduction to Redwoods. Love the illustrations and text. I hope to find more such picture books with a nature theme.
