This product is terrifying
I opened the box, opened the lighter, saw the blue light was active, and pushed the ignitor. It sparked and worked. OK, so I tried a little test on a piece of paper. Seemed to light quickly and easily, but it really smelled. That was odd but I thought it was some treatment on the paper that I was unaware of, or maybe something that was just part of igniting for the first time. The included instructions did not tell me whether the blue light indicated a full charge or not, so I plugged in the micro USB connection, then into a standard USB. I thought I heard a crackling. I listened more carefully. There was both a crackling and a hissing. There is no gas, so what can be hissing? Then the "back side", where the lanyard hole is, become hot to the touch. All this is happening in less than probably 30 seconds, certainly under a minute. I immediately unplug the mini USB. The lighter gets hotter and both the cracking and hissing noises continue. That really got my attention. And it is getting hotter as I hold it to listen to the noises.End of story - it now sits outside in the cold as I am legitimately afraid it is going to combust or flat out explode. It goes back tomorrow.I don't write many reviews but people need to be aware of this product. Maybe it was a lemon; I don't know. I do know I'd be furious if it injured me or if I had relied on this product and experienced these problems when I really needed it.

Won't be using this in any survival or bug out kit
I liked all the safety and durability of the casing and lighter. The only reason that it didn't get five stars is because it only halfway works. It's supposed to be a four prong X to stream Tesla only problem is I'm only getting one to work.

Potential fire hazard when charging.
The product was plugged into charge for first time use and battery pack started smoking and melted within a minute. Very dangerous. Have used many of your other products with no issues and they were all very good.

Doesn't last
I charged this thing up and headed to float the river for the weekend. It died after the first day. Not even worth sending it back.

It doesn't last 300 times for 10seconds.
I was only able to lit my cigar three times on full charged ,before it needed it to charge it again. i charged it again for about three hours and used it to lit my cigar. this time i can only use it once for about 30 seconds before i needed it to charge it again.

sort of junk
doesn't work well for herb especially if it makes contact. mine already doesn't work well. Never got more than 20 lights out of a charge BECAUSE i am told it does not hold a charge well

Goodbye fire strikers, lighters, and matches, hello PLASMA!
What a pain in the butt using a magnesium fire striker has been. I sprung for a few extra bucks and got the Tesla Lighter 2.0 Plasma lighter. It is similar in weight to a striker, so added weight to the pack was not a concern. Using no liquid fuel, you never have to worry about running out of fuel or wasting that last bit. This thing charges with USB and each charge is good for 300 10 second lights. It is waterproof and windproof. Lighting a flame in the wind is a major hassle. No worries with this. The plasma arc doesn't blow out. This is a key feature - I looked at several plasma lighters where the plasma arc was hard to reach because it did not have top mounted electrodes. The top mounted electrodes on this made lighting much easier. Don't butone without top mounted. Even though this is much more expensive that lighters or strikers, it is well worth it and reliable.

Frog & Co Tesla Lighter: Great value for the money.
To date, I have charged the lighter once and used it to start a fire six (6) times. The outer shell of the lighter has a nice semi-rubber type texture. The closure latch is a nice added feature and the lid closes nicely and securely. The igniter push-button is a bit small but not so small as to be unusable. Fires definitely start quickly with this lighter and I don't have to worry about lighter fluid evaporating, rendering a Zippo lighter useless. The big test will be longevity and battery life. I will be curious to see how the battery holds up over repeated charging and how the Tesla coil performance is over time. Overall, at least initially, this is an exceptional lighter for the money.

Does exactly what is expected just fine
Haven't had a chance to take this on a trip or use in a real situation. But spent some time melting paracord ends and testing on things like paper and small twigs.Does exactly what you'd expect and well. One thing to consider is small candles in tins may be hard to light once melted down, as the flip open cap stops you getting in close enough.

Most painful electric shocks!!!
I thought this was a fantastic idea at first glance. What's not to love?! Rechargeable, saving gas and single use lighters. I have to light my gas cooker using lighters and get through quite a few a year so thought this was a great solution.Sadly, it was not. The lighter is awkward as the 'lighting' part is tucked into it (I imagine for safety) but means I have to get into a pretty awkward angle to light the stove and pretty much burn myself on the flame every time. It also runs out of battery incredibly fast, and in one day of lighting our stove (perhaps 7-10 times) it is dead and needs recharging again. Then, if by accident you touch the purple cross electric part - it is an HORRENDOUS shock. I am a farmer and often get caught on electric fences - I couldn't believe the power of this was far greater! It has left a cross shaped scar on the end of my finger and was sore for several days after. I am now too terrified to use it!I have gone back to my old disposable lighters.

Certainly no where near 250-300 uses before charge
Based on the price, and the poor and misleading information about usage before charge, has to be 2 stars. I didnt count, but would guess 50-75 uses which is pretty poor. You do have to actually touch the electric bit with whatever it is you want to light aswell which reduces its usability. Regret buying and wish I had spent it on a nice zippo or something instead.

Didn't make me 'light up' with glee!
Great light, whistle, size, BUT, needs charging an awful lot and USB provided isn't as good as Duracell charger I have. Yes, windproof but again as its no flame at all and have to put (dare I mention cigarettes ) on the 'arc' its a bit of a bother.
