Psyllium Husk Powder 1 Lb Bag, Premium Grade, Freshly PackedUSDA Organic

How many of you have been using the psyllium capsules? Two years ago I was diagnosed with an anal fissure. Painful does not begin to describe it. When I finally went to see a doctor he described the pain as feeling like I was "pooping glass"! That describes it well. He told me I needed to eat more fiber. I was incredulous as I eat a very healthy, whole food diet but evidently that wasn't good enough! He recommended Metamucil so that is what I purchased. Although I have tried to get by without taking this from time to time it is to my detriment and so I got to thinking the other day that there had to be a more reasonably priced way of taking psyllium husk. I really like to eat organically as much as possible so that was another factor. This is when I discovered this loose powder which costs the same amount for 1lb as does a pot of capsules! The powder goes a lot further!NOW admittedly the capsules are easier to take and I will definitely continue to carry some in my purse for those times when taking the loose powder is not practical. However my budget likes this powder better. As other reviewers have stated, if you don't want to be eating jello you need to drink this down fast. In the photos attached I mixed 1tsp with 1/2 cup water. Within 3 minutes it was a thick gel like glue. I left this particular mix out all day and by the evening it was like eating jello.Need a gentle colon cleanse? A program I recently watched recommended psyllium husk powder for just that purpose!What does it taste like? VERY bland. It really doesn't have much of a flavor at all. You may enjoy it better in juice or a smoothie. Needless to say it is VERY important that you drink plenty of liquid when using this as the husk powder absorbs a lot of water.I can very definitely tell you that this powder works and works well so give it a try. This is the kind yo should buy. I just tried the Now Foods brand and wish that I had bought this instead. This is more white (purer), has much less flavor (almost flavorless), and mixes well. The Now Foods variety forms weird clumps that couldn't be broken up. The Indus brand is a lot easier to use and doesn't taste bad. It's a plus that it's organic too. Highly recommended.

The powder is well packaged in a thick-wall re-sealable bag. It appears to be of a high quality without obvious contamination, but the broken-English grammatical errors on the back label leads me to think it isn't actually made in the U.S. but shipped here instead, and then re-shipped to customers as if it is made here.This is our first purchase from Indus Organics though, so we will see. My wife hasn't used it yet as she uses it for certain gluten-free bread recipes (helps with consistency and texture) because of Celiac Disease. If she is happy or unhappy with it, I will update this review.

BUYER BEWARE!!! This psyllium husk powder is NOT guaranteed to be gluten free. I am celiac and purchased based on the company information saying that it IS gluten free. Upon taking I had a very bad reaction to it that is consistent with my symptoms of cross contamination with gluten. I stopped for several days and then tried again and had the same reaction. I have been taking psyllium for 30 years so I know what to expect and how to take it with ample water.I decided to call the company to see what they had to say when asked about possible gluten content. The owner indicated there was no gluten in his product. When I pressed for the specifics of fields, equipment, and testing done he said they could NOT guarantee it to be gluten free, but that it WAS gluten free. Really!So I asked why they didn't just get the gluten free certification if it IS indeed gluten free. His response: "Well we tried to call them but no one answered." Ahhh.....what? Seriously? Let me repeat. You ARE gluten free but NOT certified because when you called to pursue the certification NO ONE ANSWERED so you gave up?????At this point I said thank you, goodbye. I could hardly believe the conversation I just had. I have ZERO confidence in any claims this company has about its product after the conversation and my reaction to the psyllium. Celiac and gluten allergies are serious business and the claims of Indus Organics are very misleading.

I had been using a very popular brand beginning with the letter "K" which suddenly became so scarce it could not be found anywhere.In desperation I tried several other brands, but none were even close, until I used this brand. Although it is not quite the same as the "K" brand, it is the closest I have found.Most importantly...it works!

I've purchased whole husks, which I thought were hard to get down. I then purchased this powder in hopes it would be easy to get down so I can get my kids to drink it in water. The powder is much worse. Hopefully I can add this to soups and sauces to thicken, otherwise it will get tossed.

This is not bad when you get used to it. I don't like it in water, but in juice it's not bad. I stir it really well and let it sit and thicken for a minute or two. This gives it a smoothie consistency. The longer it sits the thicker it gets. Will definitely be reordering.

I have ordered this before and I love it. It is a good appetite regulator. When I take it with a little bit of juice, I do not get so hungry. It keeps my digestion happy.
